New Blog

Laura's Pet Portraits Blog has moved to Laura Williams Pet and Wildlife Art. This is because I want to host the blog on a domain of its own and use it to advertise my original artwork and hopefully prints in the future, as well as my Pet Portraits.

I have chosen to move the blog from blogger to wordpress as wordpress has better template customisation and also the option of having pages which means I can almost create a mini website around the new domain name.

All of my posts from this blog has been imported to the new blog - so please take a look at the new one and follow that one, as this one will no longer be updated.

Latest artwork finished

Here is the last work in progress image and the finished image of my latest piece of artwork. It is 12" x 12" and in graphite pencil. It was meant to be for a local exhibition but due to me not reading information properly now isn't! So, now I'm not sure whether to put it up for sale or keep it, either as an example piece if I ever do a stall at any local shows or maybe even make prints of it.

Anyway, here it is:

And complete...

Title: "A peaceful moment"
Size: 12" x 12"
Medium: Graphite Pencil on Heavyweight Cartridge Paper

Child and Pony update

I have been doing some more work on my graphite drawing of the child and her pony. It's a graphite piece and it's square, which is something new for me - can't believe in all the time drawing I've never done anything square - it measures 12" x 12".

Child and Pony

Started a new drawing today for entering into another local exhibition that is on next month. I had thought about drawing something 'local' but decided that the horses did well last time and it's horse I enjoy drawing, so just to stick with what I enjoy and see what happens.

When I found the reference for this drawing I just couldn't resist - I am hoping my drawing will capture the peacefullness of the photo and the sense of easy companionship between the pony and his young handler.

Here is the initial outline of the drawing taken earlier today, more updates to follow tomorrow...

Laura's Pet Portraits Website Re-design

I have recently uploaded the re-designed Laura's Pet Portraits website. It hasn't changed an awful lot - I have just tried to streamline it a little bit, just sticking to the essential pages and I have reduced the number of galleries to two, one for Pet Portrait Commissions and one for Original Artwork.

The Pet Portrait gallery now contains a selection of the variety of types of portrait I offer rather than showing all of the commissions I have completed as the last ones did.

The Original Artwork Gallery is to showcase the range of original art I complete. Anything that is for sale will be added to this gallery.

I have also changed the links pages, reducing that down to one page. I spent several hours going through my old links ensuring they still worked and that repicrocal exchanges were still in place. If anyone with a relevant website would like to take part in a reciprocal link exchange please add my details to your site (details on the links page) then contact me with your information.

Any comments on the new site are most welcome...

Watten Art and Craft Show

One of my resolutions in my New Year aims for 2011 was to enter an Exhibition. I had a look and found a number of national exhibitions that I liked the sound of but the problem with them was they were all so far away and some required delivering and collecting of work in person, which meant entering would have ended up prohibitively expensive!

So, I've decided to start closer to home and have got details of an Art and Craft Exhibition & Sale of Work at the Village Hall in Watten, which is literally just down the road from me. It runs from the evening of Friday 10th June to Sunday 12th June.

I am currently working on a piece that I'm planning on entering and have a couple of ideas of some equestrian themed pieces I'd like to do. But bearing in mind they also need to be framed I'm not sure how much time I will have so not sure how many pieces I will be able to enter. Hopefully at least two though.

The work in progress of my ongoing coloured pencil Arab Horse study, plus the updated final scan of my latest portrait are both on the Laura's Pet Portraits Facebook page.
